Excellent Guide!

Review of: Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Glowworm Caves Day Trip from Auckland
Our guide Alex was incredibly friendly, interacting individual with us to make sure we were having a great time at all the stops. The set was much larger than I thought, which was wonderful. Still easy to walk without tiring yourself out. The cider was delicious. The caves were a wonder with the worms lighting up incredibly bright. Would recommend this package!

Ideal way to cover lots of ground in 1 day

Review of: Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Glowworm Caves Day Trip from Auckland
We had a brief stopover (2 days) in Auckland and booked this tour to visit multiple New Zealand highlights and see something outside the city. It was wonderful, even better than I hoped. Even though only half of us knew the LOTR movies, we all enjoyed Hobbiton; it’s a beautiful place straight out of a fairy tale. Waitomo caves are beautiful; the boat ride is serene and it’s hard to believe you’re looking up at worms, not stars. It was an unexpected highlight to get to see so much countryside via scenic back roads. The only reason we were able to cover so much ground is because the tour company had done such a good job coordinating logistics and making sensible arrangements. The door to door service makes everything very convenient. David is an outstanding tour guide. He’s engaging, very friendly, and very professional. He gave excellent, practical suggestions on how to maximize our day and kept everyone on track without making us feel rushed. It is a long day, with an early pickup, but it wouldn’t be possible to accomplish so much otherwise. It’s well worth the time (and you can doze in the very comfortable van if you want— but you’ll miss lots of sheep!). We realized when he dropped us off that we had only been in the country for 18 hours, but felt like we had experienced many things that, on their own, would have been the highlight of another trip. This tour was even better than we hoped for, with incredible places and very friendly people. Can’t wait to come back to New Zealand.

Must-do when visiting Auckland!

Review of: Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Glowworm Caves Day Trip from Auckland
Hobbiton and Glowworm Caves were two of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. Our tour guide, Nick, was great throughout the whole trip, giving us bits and pieces of interesting info throughout our long drive to keep us awake and interested. Hobbiton itself is gorgeous and is a must see, whether you are a LoTR fan or not! The provided drinks at the Green Dragon Inn surpassed my expectations, and lunch at the Shire’s Rest was also exceptional.

The Glowworm Caves were a sight to behold as well. If you’re a singer, come prepared with a song to sing, as there is a room down in the caves with near perfect acoustics, and they ask for volunteers to sing. You get some insight into Mauri culture as well when at Waitomo.

The drive back was highlighted by Hokey Pokey Ice Cream, which you must get at some point while you are in New Zealand!

Overall cannot recommend this day tour enough!

Succinct!

Review of: Full-Day Auckland Scenic Tour
AST did a wonderful job showing us the most attractive and most beautiful scenes of Auckland in a full-day tour that did not tire us out. The fact that the group was small (a total of 9) made it easy to go from one place to another smoothly and get us to the locations on time and listen to the history and anecdotal wit that David our driver/tour guide presented. We had a great time at Mt. Eden, The Soljoan Vineyard, the upscale neighborhood and the most impressive view of the beach and ocean. David made it fun, engaging and personal. Definitely a must do.

Truly Middle Earth Fun

Review of: Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Glowworm Caves Day Trip from Auckland
As Long Time Fans of the Lord of the Rings, This was one place we wanted to see and we were not let down. The Van picked us up very early and the drive is long but we stopped along the way and got to see the countryside. Once at Hobbiton we transferred over to one of the Tour Busses. the Guide was very good and gave us lots of time as we walked through Hobbiton and saw everything from the movie’s. Seeing everything up close was fun and learning about the making of the movie and scenes made it special. I will not give anything away. This tour is walking so wear good shoes.
We were in the Philippines and flew down to AUS & NZ making the trip a little cheaper.
